Good evening my side show freaks.  This time I watched 2007′s “100 Tears” written and starring Joe Davidson.  This flick was directed by Marcus Koch.

Nothing is more creepy than carnies… except maybe clowns, and this flick has both.

This movie starts with the end of the film where a clown blows his own head off in front of a bound and bloody girl, and then flashes back to the beginning of the story.

So two tabloid reporters decide to do an expose on serial killers and specifically the 100 Tears Killer who is currently on a spree and his killings reach back 20 years.  You get to watch the 100 Tears Killer, who is also a freaking CLOWN go on his murderous rampage through a half way house with a HUGE meat clever.  These are good old fashioned splatter gore effects.  Decapitations and eviscerations abound.  Granted this is indie low budget but the splatter effects work pretty damn well.

Now granted, the whole killer clown thing is not exactly original, and at times the story seems disjointed.  The acting isn’t great but passable… for the most part.  At least the clown never started rapping.  Without spoilers I will tell you that the twist at the end you will see coming from a mile away and the absolute end of the film, is a very seventies way to end the film, so I liked it a lot.

Grindhouse?  Maybe.  Splatter-gore?  Ab-so-freakin-lutely.  Clever?  NC-17?  I really don’t know why this flick is NC-17.  Ya it’s really gory but no more than Saw.  Was it a marketing ploy?  Worked on me.  The story is pretty straight ahead, the effects are where this flick shines.  I don’t know if it is the proliferation of crappy CGI effects or what but I really enjoyed the low tech approach of the little indie.  If you are a gore hound, check it out.
