DVD Special Feature Spotlight: Apollo 18
Audio Commentary with Director Gonzalo López-Gallego and Editor Patrick Lussier.
Deleted and Alternate Scenes – Some of these scenes expands the movie even farther. Like what happened to the Russian cosmonaut and his death and you got two versions answering the question, how many dead Russians are on the moon. But the majority of the scenes are just alternate takes.
Alternate Endings – These alternates are entitled The Many Deaths of LMP Ben Anderson, there are four versions. Suffocation, Infected, Attacked, and Crashes. As you can tell by the titles Mr. Anderson (Not Kennedy) doesn’t make it back to earth. After watching these ending, I like the theatrical ending.
A few thoughts, if you will: I remember seeing the trailer and thinking this film has potential and I know it’s shaky cam and that genre is played out. But something caught my attention with Apollo 18 it was the grainy realistic footage of two people walking on the moon and being confined in a ship where no one can hear you scream and other than your tag partner, you are alone with your thoughts.
Also, I know this film isn’t perfect and the moon aliens are rarely visible and when you do see them, yea… Sorry. Not scary at all. But I like it, but I wouldn’t call it Massive.
Side Note: With a movie that takes place on the moon, the lack of extras are disappointing. Would like to see a making of or hearing from Brian Miller (Writer) on how he came up with the screenplay and what his inspiration was.
