ExorcismEmilyRoseI’ll be reviewing the unrated special edition DVD. Starring Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson & Jennifer Carpenter.

Up first we have Director’s Commentary by the director himself Scott Derrickson. In the commentary Scott talks about, how him & his writing partner Paul Harris Boardman got together to do research on a screenplay & met a guy who told them the story of Emily Rose & they thought it would be a good movie. Other stuff he touches upon is different scenes & questions people has ask him about the film. Next up you have, a few featurettes called. Genesis of the Story, Casting the Movie & Visual Design. Genesis of the Story has the director Scott Derrickson & writer Paul Harris Boardman talking about what kind of research they did for the film, from meeting with people & listening to taps of Anneliese Michel “Emily Rose”. Tracking down the rights for the film. Also in this same featurette you have a few of the actors such as Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson & Jennifer Carpenter talking about the script, different scenes they shot & there take on exorcisms & Emily Rose. Casting the Movie, has Scott Derrickson, Paul Harris Boardman talking about meeting people to star in the film & what process they took in casting. Also you have Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson & Jennifer Carpenter telling stories of why they took on their role in the film plus you have behind the scenes footage sliced in between interviews. Visual Design, director Scott Derrickson, writer Paul Harris Boardman & production designer David Brisbin talks about what look they wanted for this film. They brought in paintings & other art for reference & what the film should look like. Also they talk about what the colors mean in the film. Costume designer Tish Monaghan tells you what kind of costume they used to make this film not seen as a period piece but more of a timeless film. Visual effects supervisor Michael Shelton talks about how they shot the visual effects & editing the footage to make a super scary scene come to life. Terry Smith animatronics designer, shows you the puppet they used for Jennifer Carpenter & how it works. Next up you have deleted scene with commentary by the director. Yes, it’s only one deleted scene & the run time is two min. & some change. Last up you have Previews for different horror movies from 2005.

Overall: Alot of the stories from the director you’ll hear more then once because of the commentary & interviews he’s in. The featurettes are good, you get alot of info on the making of the movie & the Visual Design featurette was my favorite part of the special features. The one & only deleted scene was ok, nothing to talk about. & the one thing I would have like to seen on this DVD would have been more information on Anneliese Michel such as pictures, audio or even a photo gallery. But that’s why we have the internet, so we can look it up ourselves. Would I say pick up this DVD? Yes, because of the commentary & featurettes.

We participated in a small written Q&A for a web series called Woke Up Dead.  the series stars Jon Hedder who may or may not be a zombie.  His room mate thinks he’s a zombie now and is keeping a video blog of the situation.  He decides to ask some zombie professionals some questions to help determine what he should do.  So naturally he came to us.  I answered his 5 questions and gave him the best advice I could.  So click on the logo above and head on over to check it out.

ScreamTonight I will be Spotlighting the 1996 horror film Scream starring Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, David Arquette & Courteney Cox. Directed by Wes Craven & written by Kevin Williamson.

This DVD has alot of great features: Commentary, behind the scenes, cast & crew profiles. First of we have Trailers & T.v. Spots. There are two trailers & over five T.v. spots. Production featurette has interviews with Wes Craven & the actors of this film talking about when they first red the script & how scary it was the only bad thing about this featurette is scenes from the film is sliced in to add filler but you do get everybody’s take on the script & what it means to them. Next up we have two behind the scenes making of. The first one is called On the Scream Set, it’s only a 3 min. music montage of scenes of the cast & crew making Scream. The next making of is called “Drew Barrymore” This is another short music montage of Drew Barrymore acting out her death scene & other production that went into it. Those two making of featurettes are not that good. It’s just music playing over behind the scenes footage. Next up we have Q & A with cast & crew. One of the questions is “What’s your favorite scary movie?” & the other is “Why are people so fascinated by horror films?” Two great questions for the cast & crew. Basically it’s just different interview clips & everybody telling what their favorite horror film is & why, same goes for the other question. Next up on the DVD list is Special effects gallery, cast & crew profiles & the only bonus material other then the commentary that I find Massive is called Did You Know? Did you know? tells you all the hints, jokes & other movie references in the film. As in: Did you know? #8 The sheriff is played by Joseph Whipp, the same actor who played a police officer in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. & now it’s on to the commentary by: Director Wes Craven & Writer Kevin Williamson. This commentary is good, both Craven & Williamson gives you alot of detail in the making of Scream, what it was like working with the actors & Williamson talks about writing the script.

Overall: This DVD is a pass, sure it has commentary but it takes more then that to make a good DVD. The making of “music montages” is lame. I would like to see the making of for alot of the scenes & there are no deleted scenes. So if your a fan of this film you’ll enjoy it but if your looking for special feature skip this DVD.

FI3pt7Today I pick up or “double dipped” my favorite Friday the 13th film, Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood (single disc) but! it was the deluxe edition. Once I saw it I had to look on the back to see what extras it had. Boom! It had commentary, yes now this is going to be Massive! Slashed scenes, Making of. This is everything I ever wanted for my favorite F13 film. But I’m sorry to say… Some of the extras are not that Massive.

First off, the commentary is by: Director John Carl Buechler, Actors Kane Hodder & Lar Park Lincoln. The commentary track starts with John Carl Buechler & Kane Hodder who is phoning it in. No really Kane was doing the commentary track by telephone. See Kane was in LA & Buechler was in a studio. Strange way to do commentary I know. Lar Park Lincoln was by herself on the track. So one minute you have Hodder & Buechler talking then Lincoln talking, the track didn’t flow well & having Hodder on the phone was bad audio. Can someone say Skype? OK it wasn’t as bad as Skype, but you know what I mean. Lar Park Lincoln did most of the talking & she told alot of stories about being on set, going to horror conventions, meeting fans & keeping in touch with other actors from this film. Hodder & Buechler talked about the special Fx & deaths. There somewhat commentary was not all that great. Lar Park Lincoln on the other hand was Massive. They should of just put her commentary track on this DVD & called it a day. Next on the list of goodies is the making of. Jason’s Destroyer: The making of Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood. This making of is really good, it’s only 16 min. & some change but it packs a punch, if you will. There are tunes of interviews with Director John Carl Buechler, Actors Kane Hodder, Lar Park Lincoln, Kevin Blair, Diana Barrows, Elizabeth Kaitan & John Otrin. Composer Fred Mollin & Editor Barry Zetlin. The interviews arrange from alot of different topics. Casting Kane Hodder, makeup, alternate takes or deleted scenes, editing & what the MPAA told them to cut from the film, death scenes & music. This is a great making of for this DVD. Next we have, Mind over Matter: The Truth about Telekinesis. I wouldn’t say this featurette is strange for a DVD like this… Hell, some people think Jason is a zombie but I digress & on a side note: In the special features Jason is referred to being a zombie. I’m just saying… So, Mind over Matter: The Truth about Telekinesis. You’ll start of with Parapsychologist Dr. Barry Taff, PHD giving his professional thoughts & views from what he has seen over the years about people having telekinesis then you’ll meet Psychic Jack Rourke he gives you a brief history lesson about people with telekinesis & you will hear a few creepy stories also from Dr. Barry Taff & Jack Rourke. Both these interviews are really informative & a great have for this DVD. Next up is, Makeover by Maddy: Need a little touch-up work, my ass. Elizabeth Kaitan & Diana Barrows go around town getting makeovers with each other. First is hair, they both go to a punk rock hair salon… Girl talk, then what style do you want your hair? & the hair stylist guy puts on a hockey mask & pulls out a machete for grins & giggles then the two gals go to a punk rock clothing store & they both are molding different outfits for the camera & yes this time THEY put on the hockey mask & buy clothes. Really? Come on now, this featurette is bad. All it is, is just DVD special feature filler. So glad it was only two minutes long. Last on the list is, Slashed Scenes (Deleted Scenes) other then Lar Park Lincoln commentary & the making of, this is one of my favorite extras on the DVD. The intro is by Director John Carl Buechler giving you a set up of what your going to see. There are two DVD pages of deleted scenes now that’s Massive. The quality of the scenes are from an old work print of the film. So the quality isn’t all that good, it’s like watching an old school VHS tape with tracking. But for myself, it’s great to see the uncut footage from this film.

Overall: If your a fan of Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood this is a buy. & if you want to know more about this film, check out His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th. One thing I would like to have seen on this DVD would be the theatrical trailer or T.v. spots. There are no easter eggs for this DVD also.

Would like to announce that the short film Don’t Go Into The Woods will be playing at the Drunken Zombie Film Festival!

dgitw

A group of friends venture into the woods to disprove a local urban legend only to find it very very real.

The great thing about this movie is that it was written and acted by a group of teenagers and it turned out to be a lot of fun.  Their uncle helped them shoot it and do some computer effects but this movie was definitely a labor of love and it really shows through.  So enjoy!

TCM03The events of this DVD are true & In 2004 a two disc DVD set was released & this is the story of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) special features.

Disc 1
There are three “Audio Essay” of commentaries for this film, the first audio essay is called Production & it’s by: Director Marcus Nispel, Producer Michael Bay, Executive Producers Andrew Form & Brad Fuller & New Line Co- Chairman & CEO Bob Shaye. This audio essay talks about why they wanted to remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & how the producers got the right to the film. Out of the three commentaries this one has to be my favorite because of the story of how & why The Texas Chainsaw Massacre should be remade & come off as an “true story” or “snuff film”. The second audio essay is Technical & it’s by: Marcus Nispel, Cinematographer Daniel Pearl, Production Designer Greg Blair, Art Director Scott Gallagher, Supervising Sound Editor Trevor Jolly & Composer Steve Jablonsky. This commentary is great, they tell you about the little things about this remake. Props, style of the film, makeup, camera shots & locations where the film took place. & the last audio essay is about the Story. In this commentary you will hear Marcus Nispel, Michael Bay, Screen Writer Scott Kosar, Andrew Form & Brad Fuller, Actors Jessica Biel, Erica Leerhsen, Eric Balfour, Jonathan Tucker, Mike Vogel & Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface). This track you’ll get to know the background of the characters in the film by the actors them self & insight on the script for this 2003 remake.

Disc 2
Is packed with everything a DVD should have. On this disc you have Severed Parts (Deleted Scenes) with alternate opening & ending & the deleted scenes even has it’s on mini documentary to go with it by the director Marcus Nispel. Also you have Screen Test by Jessica Biel & other actors from the film. & a DVD can’t be complete without a Photo Gallery. Another Massive part is Chainsaw Redux: Masking a Massacre, this is a over an hour long documentary on how TCM was made for audiences today & why they wanted to remake this film. Publicity & Promotion is filled with tons of movie trailers, T.v. spots, teasers & even a music video by Motograter. Last on the extras list is a mini documentary called Ed Gein: The Ghoul of Plainville, it is the story of Ed Gein & the not so Massive stuff he did back in his day, kinda creepy… If you ask me. But overall I find this 2 disc DVD set a buy with three commentaries & alot of behind the scenes footage & documentaries you’ll be watching this DVD for hours maybe even a day or two.

What makes DVDs great? Well other then the movie. It’s the special features, the extras & for myself the extras on a DVD means alot. I’m a Massive fan of DVD commentary. Some of my favorite commentary tracks are Terminator 2 by: James Cameron, Halloween by: John Carpenter, Debra Hill & Jamie Lee Curtis, Alien by: Ridley Scott & A Nightmare on Elm Street by: Wes Craven, Jacques Haitkin, Heather Langenkamp & John Saxon. But tonight I’ll be talking about the special features on the Infinifilm DVD of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Disc 1
has two commentaries, the first commentary is from the original release of the film from 1999 by: director Wes Craven, director of photography Jacques Haitkin actors Heather Langenkamp & John Saxon. The second commentary is updated for the Infinifilm DVD & it gives you more insight on the film & stories by cast & crew. Commentary by: Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Jim Doyle, Sarah Risher, Rick Shayne, Robert Englund, David DelValle, Ronnie Blakely, Marge Thompson, Jacques Haitkin & Heather Lagenkamp. Some of the comments on the Infinifilm commentary track are from past interviews.

Disc 2
There are three documentaries. Never Sleep Again: The Making of A Nightmare on Elm Street takes you behind the scenes of how the Elm Street film got made it has lots of interviews from people who worked at New Line, cast & crew. The second doc is called The House that Freddy Built – The Legacy of New Line Horror: You’ll find out how New Line came from this small movie company to the big time that we see today with the help of A Nightmare on Elm Street & the sequels from it. The last doc you’ll watch is Night Terrors: This documentary explains the origins of Wes Craven’s nightmares & why people have dreams. There is also deleted scenes, alternate endings, a trivia track for your nightmare knowledge & movie trailers for alot of different New Line films. Over all the special features on this two disc DVD is Massive! It’s everything you could ever want on a DVD. So if your looking to buy A Nightmare on Elm Street on DVD pick up the Infinifilm DVD because it’s worth every cent. NightmareInfinifilm

zombiebirthday

We celebrate our 2nd year in style.  With lots of booze, guests, and at the very end cookie cake.  We have a couple of special guests which made us share some mics so voices can be soft (sorry), lots of voicemails, some thank yous, some appreciations, and of course bad audio!  One of our mic wires is wonky but now that I know which one it is I can fix it.  So ironically we almost go old school with some crackly audio during some parts.  But other than that crack open a drink and enjoy.

ChillerChiller or Wes Craven’s Chiller is a 1985 made for the T.v. movie, starring Michael Beck & Paul Sorvino. The movie starts off in some kind of cryogenic storage unit plant where the some what dead is still living. A security guard finds that one of the chambers that’s holding a body of an unknown male is melting & calls in the problem, but it’s to late & the body has to be rushed to the hospital. The unknown male is Miles Creighton, who’s been frozen for ten years & needs a new liver. The reason Miles was frozen, was because ten years ago the technology was not present to save his life so his mom Marion made a decision to freeze her sons body until the time is right. At the hospital the doctors bring Miles back to live. The movie likes to skip ahead alot in the time line. Six months later, Marion is called to the hospital & she is told there is nothing left we can do for your son & we would like to take him off life support. But Marion said no & just give my son little more time. Time passes & a nurse is checking on Miles… & He wakes! Miles gets settled in with his mom & he is offered a job in the family business buying & selling stocks but since there’s not much money comes in, Miles makes change in the family business. It’s his way or… you dead. You come to find out why Miles seems to be different then ten years ago. He was reborn without a soul & it’s up to his mother Marion to look past her love for her own son & stop his evil ways.

A few thoughts, if you will. Since it’s a made for T.v. movie the deaths are not that great, Stan Winston did a good job with the makeup Fx making someone look frozen.
