Filmmakers Commentary with director James Isaac, writer Todd Farmer & producer Noel Cunningham. The Many Lives of Jason Voorhees: Is a great inside look from fans & critics point of view of Jason, the Friday the 13th films & slasher films that came before & after Friday the 13th. Some of the great interviewees include Bob Shaye, Joe Bob Briggs, Sean S. Cunningham & Kane Hodder. By Any Means Necessary: The Making of Jason X: In the making of featurette you will see how they made a standard Friday the 13th movie but having it take place in space. Some of the making of include – having the actors work in front of an green screen, building sets but the one part in this making of everybody should check out is the making of the Uber-Jason costume & there is a part on how they got David Cronenberg to star in the film. Jump to a Death: Just like the A Nightmare on Elm Street box set DVDs, you can jump to a characters death in the film. Last up you have the Theatrical Trailer & Trailers for other films.

Basically it’s just different interview clips & everybody telling what their favorite horror film is & why, same goes for the other question. Now it’s on to the commentary by: Director Wes Craven & Writer Kevin Williamson. This commentary is good, both Craven & Williamson gives you alot of detail in the making of Scream, what it was like working with the actors & Williamson talks about writing the script. Last up are Trailers & T.v. Spots, Special Effects storyboard gallery, Cast & Crew Bios & Did You Know? Tells you all the hints, jokes & other movie references in the film. Behind The Scream: This all new tell all “documentary” about the Scream trilogy has interviews with the cast & crew from all three films & some of the footage & interviews you will be seeing again because they were on the other DVDs. Scream Outtakes: This is a blooper reel. Screen Test with Never Campbell, Skeet Ulrich & Jamie Kennedy. The Cutting Room: OK this is fun. Here you get to take scenes from Scream 3 that didn’t make the film & you put them together into a mini deleted scene that you edited yourself. Sunrise Studio Trailers: These are spoof trailers for different horror films. Last up is Crew Bios.

Overall: The 4 disc box set is packed with music montages… Not really, all 3 commentaries are good & the 4th disc makes this box set a buy. The Cutting Room extra is Massive you can spend alot of time putting together a scene. All the Outtakes are fun. If your not looking to buy the box set, I say pick up Scream because it has the best extras of all three films. Massive!

A few thoughts, if you will. I found the documentary unsettling, boring at times & it didn’t have a good flow to it. I think I was expecting more or something different. It’s hard to explain the mindset of Doiner. Plus a lot of the stories that was told I’ve already heard. Maybe I’m just burned out on A Nightmare on Elm Street & or Freddy Krueger right now because of the remake news that was coming out, all the trailers, spotlighting the VHS & DVDs & seeing the 2010 remake. One person can only take so much. In the mean time, the documentary part about A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master was my favorite piece in the whole documentary & seeing Lezlie Deane, I was like… That came out of now where. And the the poster signed by Heather Langenkamp, Massive.

Co writer & directed by Alexandre Aja. Written with Gregory Levasseur. Starring Kathleen Quinlan, Aaron Stanford, Emilie de Ravin & Vinessa Shaw. This is the Unrated DVD.

Surviving The Hills: This featurette is the making of for the film it’s over fifty minutes long & it dives into everything you maybe wanted to know about the making of this film. From casting, locations, KNB makeup effects & GCI effects, building & blowing up sets. Production Diaries: You will see a few minutes worth of behind the scenes footage. There are seven in all & they are only a few minutes long. Commentaries: The first commentary is with director / co – screenwriter Alexandre Aja, art director / co screenwriter Gregory Levasseur & producer Marianne Maddalena. The other is with producer Wes Craven & Peter Locke. Last up is an Music Video: Leave The Broken Hearts by: The Finalist.

Overall: The commentaries are good but at times it’s hard to understand what the directors are saying because of their accents. In the commentary with Craven, he talks about the 1977 The Hills Have Eyes film & current remake. The making of is okay by me. It’s just like any other making of on a DVD. With that said, rent this DVD. Two commentaries & an fifty minute making of you’ll be watching this film over & over again.

Written & directed by Wes Craven. Starring Sandra Peabody, David Hess, Lucy Grantham, Jeramie Rain, Fred Lincoln & Marc Sheffler. The version of the DVD is the Collector’s Edition (Unrated) that came out before the 2009 remake.

Still Sanding: The Legacy of The Last House on the Left: Director Wes Craven recalls the events while writing the script for The Last House on the Left & the mind set he had. Craven also talks about the then up & coming remake for Last House on the Left. Celluloid Crime of the Century: This featurette is packed with interviews with Director Wes Craven, producer Sean S. Cunningham & the cast members Fred Lincoln, Jeramie Rain, Marc Sheffler, David Hess, Martin Kove. A lot of the interviews by the cast are behind the scenes stories & how they got to star in the film. Craven & Cunningham both talk about what was going on while the scrip was being written & how a first time film maker (Wes Craven) was learning how to direct while directing his first film. Scoring Last House: David Hess talks about how he got the job of scoring the film & his love of music. Tales That’ll Tear Your Heart Out: Is an unfinished anthology film Craven directed in 1976. The film was not finished because Craven ran out of money. But here for the first time you will get to see the unfinished work by Craven. Also there is no audio for this unfinished film. Deleted Scene – Mari Dying at the Lake: Well… It’s a deleted scene. Moving on. Never Before Seen Footage: Note that this footage has no audio & it’s a scene that last 5 min. & some change. I’m guessing this scene was cut from the film. There is Commentary with actors David Hess, Marc Sheffler & Fred Lincoln. Last up you have Trailers for other films.

Overall: This might be an older film but it’s packed with special features! Both featurette are Massive with tons of interviews & stories. The commentary is funny with a lot of trivia. This DVD is a buy.

Co writer & directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. Co writer Terry Robbins. Starring Elias Koteas, Milla Jovovich & Will Patton.

This DVD is lacking everything except Deleted Scenes because that is the only special feature on the DVD. I even went to check out the Blu-ray to see what extras are on it & it also just has deleted scenes.

Overall: You think in the year 2009 when The Fourth Kind came out, DVDs & Blu-rays would be packed with special features. I understand maybe an older film would be a bare bones DVD but a new release just having deleted scenes & not even a trailer for the film itself is crazy. Just skip this DVD & Blu-ray altogether.

Directed by Jon Harris. Screenplay by J Blakeson, James McCarthy, James Watkins & Neil Marshall. Starring Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Krysten Cummings & Michael J. Reynolds.

Commentary with director Jon Harris & actors Shauna Macdonald, Krysten Cummings & Anna Skellern. A few stories you will hear the director & cast talk about are… Attending the premier for the film, shooting outside & seeing the film Wolfman being shot just a few yards away. The director talks about camera setups & lighting, locations & casting. Deleted Scenes: Eleven in all & they run together back to back like one long deleted scene & there is no commentary for them. Deeper and Darker: Is the making of for the film. This featurette is broken down into 4 mini segments. 1. Deeper and Darker: The director from the first film Neil Marshall gives his thoughts on working on The Descent & having a sequel also. Writers J Blakeson & James McCarthy talk about the script & keeping the fan expectations in mind while writing the sequel. A few of the producers comment on the fear of being trapped underground. 2. Old Wounds, New Blood: Here you will get to know more about the script & getting the actors to come back for the sequel & casting new actors. 3. Sink Holes, Shadows & Darkness: This featurette is all about designing & building the underground caves & how they lit them. Also you find out how they made the lift & the Massive idea of how to lower someone by them just standing there. 4. Crawlers, Guts & Gore: Creature Effects Designer, Paul Hyatt talks about re-designing the look of the cave dwellers & giving them more personality. Storyboard Gallery: The gallery of storyboards is just that. Let’s explain, if you will. The storyboards just crawl across the screen with no sound, yep it’s it. Last up you have Trailers: For other films.

Overall: The making of has so much packed into it & it touches on everything. I thought all the deleted scene were good & some of them I would like to see put back into the film. The commentary is okay, but at times you do get dead air because the cast & crew are watching the film & people talking over one another. But in the end rent this DVD. But wait there’s more. Head over to Night Of The Living Podcast & checkout episode 180 for their review of The Descent: Part 2

Directed by William Friedkin & written by William Peter Blatty. Starring Max von Sydow, Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Jason Miller & Lee J. Cobb. The version of the film I’m reviewing is the re-release from 1999 with the added footage & the tag line “The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen”

This DVD lacks in the special features category but it does have one thing going for it & that’s a commentary by director William Friedkin. In the commentary Friedkin talks about the added footage, character development, locations & casting. Other extras are T.v. & Radio Spots, Theatrical Trailers & an Cast & Crew credits list.

Overall: I say pick this DVD up because the commentary is really good & the DVD has been out for so long you can probably find a cheap copy at your local retailer. On a side note. If you come across the The Exorcist: 25th Anniversary Special Edition. Pick that version of the DVD up as well. Because it has a lot more special features.

-Audio commentary by William Peter Blatty, including audio outtakes of sound effects.
-Special introdoction by director William Friedkin.
-The Fear of God: The Making of the Exorcist, a 74 minute documentary including never-before-seen-footage plus all new interviews with the movies’s cast & crew.

Directed by Zack Snyder & screenplay by James Gunn. Starring Sarah Polley, Ty Burrell, Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer & Inna Korobkina. This is the remake of the 1978 film Dawn Of The Dead that was written & directed by George A. Romero. The version of the DVD I’m reviewing is the single disc unrated director’s cut.

First their are two versions of the film on the DVD. The theatrical & an unrated director’s cut. If you decide to watch the unrated director’s cut you will get an introduction by Zack Snyder. The Lost Tape: Andy’s Terrifying Last Words Revealed: The footage that is shown will give you more story to what was Andy up to over the spanned of a few mounts then leading to his death. Special Report: We Interrupt This Program!: This extra is cool because it’s a fake news report. Undead Scenes with commentary by director Zack Snyder & producer Eric Newman: That would be the deleted scenes with optional commentary. Raising The Dead: This is a seven minute behind the scenes look with special makeup effects artist David LeRoy Anderson who talks about how he got the role making zombies & what vision he had in mind for the look of the zombies. Attack Of The Living Dead: This is a six part featurette on six main zombies from the film. Splitting Headaches: Anatomy Of Exploding Heads: This is a five minute & some change on how they made a head explode in the film with interviews by David LeRoy Anderson & Zack Snyder. Their is also a commentary with director Zack Snyder & producer Eric Newman.

Overall: The commentary is one of my favorites. Zack Snyde talk a lot about casting, music & zombie makeup. Special Report: We Interrupt This Program! & Attack Of The Living Dead featurette are a must see. One other great thing about this DVD is you get two versions of the film on one DVD. With that said I say pick up this DVD for your home viewing pleasure, if you will.

Overall: Give this DVD a rent. Some of the stories you might have heard from other DVDs. The one good thing is the interview with Peter Bracke & how the Crystal Lake Memories book came together. Lost Tales from Camp Blood – Part 2… I’m guessing you have to buy the first Friday the 13th to see the first half of the short film. Since it’s “Part 2″ & what not.

The Man Who Would Be Shaun: Simon Pegg & Nick Frost are acting out a scene but Simon Pegg keeps laughing everything Nick Frost says something funny, so they have to filmed it over & over again. It’s like a mini blooper reel. 3. Plot Holes: In the film there are three plot holes that need to be answered. So in this feature you will find out those answers but in storyboard form. 4. Outtakes: Runtime a little bit over ten minutes. 5. Extended Bits: Is the deleted scene, 15 in all with optional commentary with Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg. Zomb-O-Meter: Is a trivia track you can turn on while watching the film. Last up you have the T.v. Bits (T.v. Spots) & Trailer for the film.

Overall: The commentary with Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg is great but the cast commentary is hard to follow at times because they are talking over one another & the british accent don’t help either. All the featurettes are worth watching. I give it a buy.

Starting with Pre- Production & ending with the last call sheet. You’ll see alot of behind the scenes footage, interviews, locations, camera setups, stunts. Like I said alot of stuff.

Overall: Both commentaries are very good & the blooper reel is funny… That’s why it’s a blooper reel. Anyway, the two hour making of is great & I would like to have seen the deleted scenes have an optional commentary with Rob Zombie. Other than that I give this DVD a strong rent & as DDP once said Feel the BANG! Massive.
