Coming from Ghost House Underground is DANCE OF THE DEAD!  A fun zombie movie that takes place during a high school prom.  I got to check out part of this movie at Horrorhound Weekend and had a great time.  The crowd was a big influence on this but the film itself is a great watch.  Sure it has a lot of zombie cliches but it does it in such a way that you have a great time during it.  The heroes take up axes, guns, and knives to battle the undead.  You of course have the jocks, the rock and rollers, the sci fi club, and the cheerleaders all fighting for survival.  The special features include a Making Of featurette, a stunts and special effects featurette, some deleted scenes, and a short film from the director.  At my local Best Buy it was at reagular price of $14.99.  So be sure to check it out.

I remember when Chucky was actually scary.  Now I’m not saying Child’s Play doesn’t have some cheese factor but when I was 10 this film scared the crap out of me and made me finally make the move to get rid of any stuffed animals I had.  The later films went into a more comedy direction but the original was definately creepy in parts.  Seeing a charred Chucky pop out of a vent and try to attack Chris Sarandon haunted my nightmares for weeks after watching it.  After a lackluster previous DVD release I am super happy to see the 20th anniversary edition is going to have some fun stuff on it.  Some of the special features are:

- Commentary track with creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner.
- A second track with FX guru Kevin Yagher, Catherine Hicks (Kevin’s wife; they met on the film), and now-grown-up Alex Vincent.
- A third track with Mancini and Chucky (Brad Dourif voicing in character).
- The film itself is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen.
- Making-of documentary blending archival footage with new, on-camera interviews with Mancini, Kirschner, Yagher, Hicks, Vincent, Chris Sarandon, John Lafia and Brad Dourif.

I can’t wait to get my copy.  Head over and get it now.

This week we recommend the just released third season of the CW show SUPERNATURAL.  I’ve been catching up on old episodes and have been enjoying the show greatly.  It mixes in some cool horror elements along with decent enough writing (decent enough compared to the other trite crap on CW) to keep the viewer engaged in the characters.  It follows two brothers that search the country for their missing father and have encounters with monsters and ghosts along the way.  If you’re a fan then season three is a must buy.  If you’re just starting out then try season 1 first.

Welcome to a new feature here on Drunken Zombie where I pick one new horror DVD release that we think is a must buy each week.  This week my pick is the 50 Movie Pack of Legends Of Horror.  Most of the time these DVDs aren’t anything write home about except for the fact that you get 50 movies for one purchase but this box set brings some punch with it.  First off you get 50 movies from horror’s early days that are exactly what the box says “Legends”.  Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Alfred Hitchcock, and Christopher Lee.  How could you go wrong with that line up?  And it’s not chump movies either.  Some of the line up includes The Lady Vanishes, Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride, Fury Of The Wolf-Man, The Phantom Creeps, The Man Who Knew To Much, and The Werewolf vs. Vampire Women.  The only real bad thing about these DVD sets is the complete lack of any special features.  Some of these films could use a great documentary, commentary (not from Drunken Zombie), and trailer collection.  But for the price and fact that you get 50 movies that’s not to shabby of a trade off.  Even if you’re just a Hitchcock fan alone this set would be a great buy as a lot of his underrated material is here on the DVD. The set comes with 12 DVDs and has a retail price of $29.98.  If you’re a fan this is a must buy DVD.
